Long ago, the legendary pirate Blackbeard sailed the wild open seas, inspiring generations of folklore, mystery, and maritime wonder. Decades ago, that adventurous spirit dropped anchor right here on our sun-kissed coast to create a culinary landmark.
Blackbeards Restaurant Port Elizabeth Seafood was officially established in September 1975 by the matriarch Bea Franklin and her sons, Ronnie and Harold Franklin. Quickly earning a stellar reputation for the finest ocean catches, it became an unforgettable coastal dining destination.
When the Chapman Hotel opened its welcoming doors in 1998, Blackbeards sailed seamlessly into its magnificent new home. Today, the Franklin Brothers (the children of Harold & Denise Franklin) proudly steer the ship, continuing to run the legendary restaurant from the Chapman Hotel with the very same passion, family tradition, and exceptional seafood that started it all over fifty years ago.
